Sade’s music has been an inspiration to me since the 90’s when I first heard her album Love Deluxe. Her music inspires me like the ocean, which is one of the reasons why I’m pretty convinced that Sade is a mermaid. She possesses an undeniable enchantment and a captivating aura that can only be attributed to her being a mermaid. Sade is a clever mermaid, in the way that she disguises by ironically revealing her true nature in plain sight in the music video for her song, No Ordinary Love.
Let’s talk about how Sade might be a mermaid. I’ll be using a few checkpoints from my article, 8 Ways to Discover Mermaids Living Among Us to determine what qualities Sade displays that reveal the enigmatic songstress for who she really is…an ethereal being of timeless beauty and elegance…a mermaid.
1. Sade’s music video of her song, Moon and the Sky
I won’t begin by discussing the obvious video No Ordinary Love in which Sade is in a mermaid “costume”, but I will say one thing. It’s pretty clever when someone can find a way to disguise in plain sight like that! I will, however, discuss her other music video that touches upon one of the things we do know about mermaids, which is that mermaids love the full moon; they are drawn to it like the ocean. In Sade’s music video Moon and the Sky, the full moon appears to demonstrate her love for the moon and its connection to the sky. I was also able to find out that for a few of Sade’s concerts in 2011 there were full moons – May 17th, August. 13th, and September 12th. This may not mean anything, but these are some things that connect Sade to the moon that I was able to find.
fcourse, we don’t know what other connections Sade may have to the moon, but let’s review her zodiac. Sade is a Capricorn, which according to zodiacsign.com means that she is most compatible with Pisces…hum…the fish. Also, the Sabian symbol for Capricorns born on January 16th is the following: “A Nature Spirit Dancing in the Iridescent Mist of a Waterfall”. This Sabian symbol aligns well with the mystical and ethereal qualities often attributed to mermaid mythology. It suggests a connection to the mystical and ethereal qualities often attributed to mermaids, and waterfalls, with their flowing water and enchanting atmosphere are frequently associated with mermaid legends. I should also mention that Sade has an instrumental at the end of her album Love Deluxe called Mermaid; the fact that it’s an instrumental could hint her identification with mermaids. The choice to name the track “Mermaid” suggests a symbolic connection between Sade and the mysterious, fluid nature of mermaids. Let’s take a look at the next one on our checklist.

Mermaids love to feel the flow. Well, it so happens that Sade’s voice embodies the essence of flow itself. I could not to find any pictures of Sade wearing moonstone, which mermaids often use to stabilize moods, enhance intuition, and delay transformation; however, this does not mean that she does not own an anklet of moonstone or a ring not seen in pictures. I did notice something quite promising, which is that Sade only seems to wear one visible piece of jewelry for most of her life – hoop earrings. In all the years that this beautiful songstress has been a famous singer and probably received many pieces of jewelry as gifts, she mostly only wears hoop earrings. I found a few pictures of Sade wearing necklaces, although I couldn’t determine the materials for most of them. One necklace, featured in her music video for No Ordinary Love, is made of shells.
Sade’s practicality as a mermaid is evident in her choice of wearing just one piece of jewelry. This wise decision aligns with the fact that most jewelry rusts in salt water. Like myself, who religiously wears hoop earrings (which easily snap off), Sade can quickly and easily remove her earrings before venturing into her underwater queendom. This intriguing characteristic sets her apart from other famous superstar singers who often wear multiple pieces of jewelry. It’s a promising sign indeed!
4. Sade has Musicality
This one is so obvious, but I’ll take great joy in diving into what makes Sade’s music exceptional. Sade’s voice is enchanting, hauntingly beautiful, and ethereal—it captivates and mesmerizes audiences. In a way reminiscent of mermaids enchanting sailors in mythology, Sade’s melodic sensibility weaves rich and flowing melodies, taking listeners on a captivating journey. Through her expressive and emotional delivery, she evokes deep feelings, mirroring the intense emotions of the mermaid that she is.
Sade’s connection to music, her water-themed symbolism, and the fluidity of her artistic expression reflect a profound musicality akin to the depths of the ocean. Her expressive voice and captivating allure evoke the enchanting qualities attributed to mythical beings of the sea. Rare individuals possess an ethereal quality like Sade. 5. Sade’s Music is Introspective Like Introverts
Mermaids are introverted by nature. They possess an inherent desire to establish profound connections with others, reaching depths beyond surface-level interactions. Sade’s music has been referred as the Beyonce for introverts. Sade delves into deep emotions, contemplative themes, and reflective narratives. The mellow and introspective nature of her music creates an atmosphere that offers a space for self-reflection and emotional connection, which can deeply resonate with introverted individuals such as myself. While Sade’s personal disposition remains unknown, there is a saying that goes, “It takes one to know one”, and Sade demonstrates a profound understanding of her audience. It is also worth noting that Sade is known for being a private and enigmatic figure. She’s maintained a low profile throughout her career and has often chosen to keep her personal life out of the public eye. So we can’t be sure about this one, but signs point to a strong maybe.
6. Sade’s Wardrobe
Mermaids, being cautious creatures, tend to avoid wearing clothing that exposes their lower bodies, as they fear the accidental contact with water could trigger an unexpected transformation, revealing their true nature. In a similar vein, Sade’s wardrobe demonstrates a conscious choice to prioritize modesty and discretion. A notable observation from a Vogue article on Sade’s legendary style is that she often opts for long skirts that gracefully reach her ankles or chooses to wear pants. This deliberate selection of garments suggests a careful approach, as Sade embraces clothing that minimizes the risk of any transformative mishaps.
